Tragedy Strikes as Akwa Ibom Poly Final-Year Student Found D3ad in Her Sleep
A wave of sorrow has swept through Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, following the untimely d3ath of Emem Okon Jimmy, a final-year student in the Department of Journalism and Media Studies.

Emem was discovered d3ad in her off-campus lodge on the night of Friday, July 18, 2025—nearly 24 hours after she was last seen. According to residents, she had appeared healthy the day before and even shared dinner with fellow students before retiring for the night. Her prolonged absence the following day raised concern.
Efforts to reach her proved futile, prompting the lodge caretaker and other residents to force entry through the ceiling. They found her lifeless body lying face down on the bed, covered with her bedsheet and still holding her mobile phone. Witnesses reported traces of bl%%d coming from her nose and staining her mattress, indicating a possible medical emergency.
Her elder brother was contacted and transported her body to a nearby mortuary in Ikot Ekpene.
During a candlelight procession held in her memory ahead of her burial on Saturday, July 25, the Head of Department, Dr. Inemesit Umoren, expressed heartfelt condolences to the student community. He urged them to remain hopeful and spiritually grounded, adding that regular medical checkups are essential—even in the face of academic pressure.
The campus remains in mourning as tributes pour in for a promising young woman whose life ended too soon.
