Tinubu Approves Establishment of Forest Guards, Orders Immediate Recruitment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of a specialized security outfit known as the Forest Guards of Nigeria, aimed at securing the nation’s forests and flushing out criminal elements.

The President also directed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to commence the immediate recruitment of personnel into the new security unit.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the Forest Guards will operate across Nigeria’s 1,129 forest reserves, serving as a frontline force against terrorists, bandits, and other criminals using the forests as hideouts.

“The President directed that the forest guards be well-trained and armed to carry out their primary duty of flushing out terrorists and other criminals hiding in the forests for illegal activities,” the statement said.

The initiative is part of a collaborative security strategy between the federal government and state governments to tackle insecurity in remote areas. The NSA and the Ministry of Environment have been assigned to coordinate the recruitment and operational structure of the new unit.

President Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring security nationwide, vowing that criminal groups will not be allowed to control any part of the country’s forests.

“This administration will not surrender an inch of our land to terrorists, bandits, or criminals,” he declared.

The recruitment exercise is expected to create thousands of jobs for young Nigerians, while strengthening the country’s capacity to monitor and protect forested areas.
