‎By Elizabeth Oyeniwa

‎The Ondo State House of Assembly has assured residents of intensified people-focused legislative activities in 2026, as part of efforts to deepen good governance and democratic dividends in the state.

The Speaker of the House, Chief Olamide Oladiji, gave the assurance while addressing lawmakers and staff at the Assembly Complex in Akure during the first working day of the year.

‎He called on the people of the state to continue to support the lawmakers in achieving their legislative mandate.

The gathering provided an opportunity for legislators and members of staff to jointly thank God for the gift of a new year. Oladiji commended both lawmakers and staff for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the smooth conduct of legislative business in 2025.

‎He reaffirmed the 10th Assembly’s commitment to staff development and welfare, urging workers to be more productive and committed in the new year.

‎The Speaker also expressed appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his consistent support to the legislature, particularly the approval of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).

‎According to him, the governor has also approved recruitment into the Assembly service, assuring that existing contract staff would be adequately considered in the exercise.

‎Earlier, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Benjamin Jaiyeola, lauded the leadership of the 10th Assembly for prioritising staff welfare. He noted that workers have begun to enjoy the benefits of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure and pledged the continued cooperation of staff in advancing the goals of the Assembly.

‎In a sermon drawn from Psalm 100, the guest preacher, Pastor Abigail Ibitoye, charged workers to always give thanks to God and to walk with Him in the discharge of their official responsibilities.

‎Some members of staff who spoke with The Hope pledged to improve their performance in 2026 for the overall progress of the legislative arm of government.

‎The programme ended with prayers for Ondo State, the lawmakers, Assembly staff and a successful legislative year.
