Osun NSCDC Shuts Down Disability Home Over Poor Conditions

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has sealed off a children’s disability home located at Ota-Efun, Osogbo, following reports that the facility lacked the necessary resources to care for its residents.

According to the Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, represented by Deputy Commandant Abeere Oluwafemi and the Head of the Unit for Persons with Disabilities, Deputy Superintendent Rita Olaniru, the action was taken after a public tip-off.

A statement from the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, revealed that officers found the children malnourished and the facility unregistered with the proper authorities. Further investigation showed that many parents had abandoned the children and stopped paying for their care.

The NSCDC has contacted the Osun State Bureau for Persons with Disabilities to take further action. Commandant Sotiyo urged parents and guardians to carefully vet care homes before placing their children and emphasized that the corps will continue working with stakeholders to ensure the protection of persons with disabilities in the state.
