Osun Monarch Strips Chief of Title Over Alleged Transformer Theft
In Osun State, a traditional ruler has removed a local chief after the latter was accused of stealing electricity transformers from the community.
The monarch, whose authority covers the affected area, reportedly acted following complaints from residents and confirmation from local authorities. According to sources, the chief allegedly colluded in the illegal dismantling and sale of transformers, causing frequent power outages in the community.
At a public palace meeting, the monarch formally revoked the chief’s title and warned others against misappropriating public infrastructure. Village leaders and stakeholders were present to witness the pronouncement.
The state power utility and law enforcement have been asked to investigate the allegations and recover missing transformers. The monarch urged the government to ensure proper security and monitoring of electrical installations to prevent further vandalism.
