Ondo Police Deny Forcing DPOs to Pay for Lagos Election Deployment

The Ondo State Police Command has debunked a viral report claiming that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state were compelled to pay ₦39,000 each to fund their deployment to Lagos for the forthcoming Local Government elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, described the report—circulated by an online news platform—as “baseless” and a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.

Ayanlade explained that the deployment of officers to Lagos was part of a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to strengthen security before, during, and after the elections. He noted that such inter-command deployments are routine and standard within the Nigeria Police Force to enhance operational efficiency.

“All necessary logistical and welfare arrangements were duly made by the Command to facilitate a seamless deployment process without placing any financial burden on the officers involved,” the statement read.

The Command labeled the report as misleading and unprofessional, urging members of the public to disregard it in its entirety.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and professionalism, the Command assured residents that it remains dedicated to its constitutional duties and to maintaining public trust.
