Ondo Govt Launches Probe Into Violent Idogun Festival Clash

The Ondo State Government has set up a seven-member Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the violent communal clash that broke out in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area, during the town’s annual New Yam Festival.

The unrest, which occurred on October 3, 2025, saw angry youths attack the monarch of the town, Oba Moses Bakare, along with his wife and son. The traditional ruler was reportedly injured, while his wife was assaulted and partially stripped by the attackers.

Announcing the panel’s constitution, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, said the committee’s mandate is to unravel both the remote and immediate causes of the crisis, identify those involved, and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.

The panel is chaired by Barrister Idowu Mafimisebi, with Chief Gbenga Atiba, Mrs. Nike Ogunsola, Pastor Bukola Joseph Ojumu, Mr. Daramola Shola, a representative of the Attorney-General’s office, and Mr. Oladele Adesanmi as members. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs will serve as Secretary.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa tasked the committee to conduct its assignment with fairness, transparency, and integrity, urging residents of Idogun to cooperate fully with the panel. The committee is expected to submit its findings within six weeks.

Security agencies have also intensified efforts to restore peace and apprehend those behind the attack, as the state government moves to ensure lasting stability in the community.
