Ondo Assembly summons finance Commissioner ,calls for urgent action to forestall flooding

Ondo State House of Assembly has summoned the State Commissioner for finance ,Mrs Omowumi Isaac to appear before it on Thursday,10th of October,2024 by 10:00 am.
This is sequel to the presentation of a
bill to amend the 2024 appropriation and authorize the issue from the consolidated revenue fund of ondo State by the State government read by the Clerk of the house, Jaiyeola Benjamin.
The House today at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji resolved that it is important for the Commissioner to come and explain in details and shed light on the proposed bill.
The House noted that as lawmakers and representatives of the people,it is part of their statutory responsibility to set record straight at all times.
The Lawmaker representing Odigbo constituency, Hon Olatunji Ifabiyi moved a motion for the Commissioner to be invited which was seconded by a Lawmaker representing Okitipupa constituency 2, Hon Ololade Gbegudu.
Subsequently, the house has called on relevant Authorities to take adequate and proactive measures to prevent re- occurrence of flood in any part of the State.
The House while speaking under urgent public importance on the recent flood at Ondo East and West local governments equally called on National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), among other disaster management agencies to rise up to the challenges,by offering necessary assistance to victims of the flood.
While saying that it is on record that the impact of NEMA has not been seen in the State, the house called on the State government to aquire more swamp buggy machines to maintain canals.
The house posited that the State Ministry of Physical planning and Urban Development should also swing into action and ensure that all the illegal structures blocking the drainages and canals should be remove with immediate effect.
In the same vein, the house advised residents to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse,stop erecting structures in water ways in view of the danger it portends for the people.
The House observed a minute silence over the disaster and commiserate with the Monarchs and families that lost their beloved ones .
The House thanked the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his prompt response and for promising to come to the aid of the affected residents.
