Ondo Assembly Hosts Stakeholders’ Meeting on Public Audit Law Amendment

The Ondo State House of Assembly has reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources by convening a stakeholders’ meeting to deliberate on the proposed amendment to the Ondo State Public Audit Amendment Law 2021.

The meeting, held at the Assembly Complex in Akure, aimed to align the state’s audit processes with international best practices and enhance financial accountability across all public institutions.
While declaring the sitting open, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Ololade Gbegudu, welcomed participants and emphasized the Assembly’s resolve to promote good governance and prudent management of public resources.
Also in his welcoming speech, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Ogunwumiju Moyinolorun Taiwo, provided a historical background of the Public Audit Law, highlighting its enactment in 2017 and subsequent review in 2021.”
The proposed amendment seeks to strengthen the public finance system, secure the future of staff in the offices of the Auditors-General, and promote accountability and transparency in governance” he noted Representatives of key government offices, including the Head of Service and the State Auditor-General, commended the Assembly for initiating the review process and pledged their support for the amendment. Mrs. Folake Sanni, representing the Head of Service, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the inclusive legislative approach and noted that the amendment would benefit Ondo State by improving the public account law and enhancing the audit framework.
The State Auditor-General, Samuel Adegoke, thanked the Assembly for its support and commitment to strengthening institutional accountability.The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Clerk of the House, Jaiyeola Benjamin, and participants proceeded to the technical session for detailed deliberations on the proposed amendments.
