Oba of Benin Declares Two-Week Fasting and Prayer for Edo People

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has called on all indigenes of Edo State, both at home and abroad, to embark on a two-week fasting and prayer exercise for divine protection and peace.

In a statement issued by the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia, the monarch announced that the spiritual exercise will hold from September 15 to September 28, 2025. He stressed that every Benin son and daughter is expected to take part in the observance.

According to the royal directive, the fasting will run daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the period. The monarch explained that the practice aligns with long-standing Benin tradition, which requires fasting and prayers before the commencement of the yearly new yam festival.

“This sacred exercise is to seek the blessings of God Almighty and our royal ancestors for a fruitful harvest, protection from sudden death, and peace in our homes, families, state, and the nation at large,” the statement noted.

The Oba offered prayers for all participants, asking God Almighty to grant peace, happiness, and divine favour upon Edo people as they join in the collective spiritual undertaking.
