Lagos to Roll Out Monthly and Quarterly Rent Payment Options
The Lagos State Government is introducing monthly and quarterly rent payment schemes to reduce the financial strain on residents, particularly low-income earners.

Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, announced the initiative during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing on Tuesday, marking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in office. He explained that this new system is part of a broader housing reform aimed at improving affordability and access across the state.
According to Akinderu-Fatai, the positive reception of the state’s rent-to-own scheme — which allows tenants to make a 5% initial payment and spread the remaining balance over 10 years — helped inspire this move.
“Many residents struggle with lump-sum annual rent payments. By offering monthly or quarterly options, we aim to ease this pressure and provide more flexibility,” he said.
The state government is currently engaging with landlords, property developers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation, focusing on challenges such as payment tracking, enforcement, and cooperation from landlords.
“We’re not just drafting policies — we are taking concrete steps,” Akinderu-Fatai emphasized. “We’re working towards a pilot phase in select parts of the state, and the goal is to make this a reality for as many families as possible.”
