In Just Two Hours: How Nigerians Raised ₦5 Million for Nollywood’s Jumoke George
In a world that often feels rushed and indifferent, acts of kindness remind us of the enduring beauty of humanity. Such was the case when veteran Nollywood actress Madam Jumoke George received an unexpected lifeline, a donation of ₦5 million from compassionate strangers moved by her story. And it all happened in less than two hours.

The story began when Adetunji Dolapo, a friend of a concerned citizen, shared the contact of Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr. Latin and President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN). Wasting no time, the concerned individual reached out and introduced himself. Mr. Latin, recognizing the urgency and sincerity of the message, responded promptly and shared Madam Jumoke George’s contact.
What followed was a phone call filled with empathy and assurance. He told Madam Jumoke that she was loved, admired, and not forgotten. He then asked her to send her account details, informing her that she would be receiving a few million naira through a friend who wished to remain anonymous.
That friend, in collaboration with Spear News, transferred ₦5,000,000 (five million naira only) into his account to support the actress. Due to daily banking limits, ₦4.5 million was immediately transferred to her, with the balance scheduled for a later date. Madam Jumoke George confirmed receipt with an emotional voice note, one filled with gratitude, deep prayers, and a renewed sense of hope.
Her voice, though trembling, carried strength and grace. It was a moment that captured the essence of compassion: strangers coming together to lift another, not for fame or accolades, but for love and shared humanity.
This noble effort was supported by others behind the scenes. Marufah Motunrayo Muhammed worked tirelessly to help secure the actress’s contact, while Àpóstélì Onès Kayode also lent his support. Each person played a role, forming a web of goodwill that led to a life-changing intervention.
As the initiator of the donation reflected:
“God is good, but He doesn’t live among us. He, however, has His representatives among us.”
In times like these, when headlines often carry sorrow, this story stands as a beacon of hope. It reminds us that kindness is still alive, and sometimes, miracles come wrapped in generosity, delivered not by angels from above, but by people who care.
