I Signed Electoral Act to Avoid Crisis — Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained that his decision to sign Nigeria’s Electoral Act was guided by his commitment to democracy and national unity.

Speaking at a conference organised by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the President described himself as a strong believer in democratic principles and the unity of the country.
“I’m a die-hard democrat, and I follow that belief wholeheartedly, committed to a united country, Nigeria. That principle and philosophy will live and die with me. That I have signed the Electoral Act, I have no choice,” Tinubu said.
He noted that the bill had already received overwhelming support from the National Assembly of Nigeria, making it necessary for him to respect the rule of law and democratic process.
Tinubu added that his political philosophy has always been centred on building a united nation and respecting institutions that strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system.
“I don’t want to throw the country into turmoil and there was an overwhelming majority by the National Assembly that passed the law. So I submitted myself to the principle of democracy which is the rule of law and I signed. The rest is history,” he said.
