God Gave Me a Stern Warning About Leaving RCCG — Pastor E.A. Adeboye
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared a deeply personal spiritual encounter in which God warned him that his firstborn would die if he ever left the denomination.

Speaking during the June Holy Ghost Service themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2)” held at Redemption City in the early hours of Saturday, June 7, Adeboye—fondly known as Daddy G.O.—stressed the importance of divine direction and remaining rooted in one’s God-ordained place.
He expressed concern over the increasing trend of church-hopping among young Christians, urging them to seek divine guidance on where they belong. Recalling his early days as a believer, Adeboye noted that although several influential ministries existed at the time, God gave him a firm instruction.
“There were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good,” he said. “There were temptations to move from one to another, but God spoke to me clearly: ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
At that time, RCCG was relatively unknown, operating from a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Adeboye recounted how, despite being a university lecturer, God instructed him to submit to a spiritual leader who had no formal education.
“I was a lecturer in the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school—not even primary. But God said, ‘This is where you will stay,’” he shared.
He urged Christians, particularly the youth, to prayerfully discern where God has planted them and remain there.
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised, adding a clarification: “I am not saying we are better than any other denomination.”
