EFCC Arrests Abuja Socialite Aisha Achimugu at Airport Despite Court Order

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Abuja socialite Aisha Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, shortly after her return from London.

This arrest follows a March 2025 declaration by the EFCC, naming her wanted for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering in connection with MBA Trading and Capital Limited.

On Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court ordered Achimugu to report to the EFCC on Tuesday and appear in court on April 30. Her lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, confirmed the arrest but described it as a breach of judicial order, stating, “She arrived voluntarily… but was arrested at the airport.”

Ojukwu further revealed that Achimugu has begun a hunger strike, referring to her as “a prisoner of conscience.” An EFCC source defended the agency’s action, saying the court order did not bar her detention and emphasized the need to secure compliance with legal proceedings.
