Dangote Group Disowns Truck Linked to Fatal Akungba-Akoko Accident
The management of Dangote Group has denied ownership of a truck allegedly involved in a fatal accident that claimed the lives of eight persons, including a pregnant woman, in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

In a statement released on its official social media pages, the company clarified that the vehicle, with registration number JJJ 365 XB, does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries.
According to the statement, the truck was operated by an independent logistics firm and was conveying crushed stones — not Dangote products — at the time of the crash.
“The truck involved in the unfortunate accident does not belong to Dangote Group or any of its subsidiaries,” the company said. “All authentic Dangote trucks are branded, numbered, and tracked under strict operational and safety guidelines, making them easily identifiable.”
Dangote Group urged the public and media organizations to verify information before attributing ownership, warning against misinformation that could tarnish its reputation.
While expressing condolences to the families of the victims, the company reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety and responsible transport practices across Nigeria.
The tragic crash occurred along the Akungba-Akoko–Owo Road on Saturday, reportedly causing multiple fatalities and severe injuries. Emergency responders and law enforcement officers were said to have swiftly arrived at the scene to evacuate victims and clear the wreckage.
The accident has reignited public concern over the frequent road crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles in the Akoko area, with residents calling for stricter regulation and improved enforcement of transport safety standards.
