Bode George: My Children Struggle to Get Jobs Because of My Name

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has expressed deep concern over the worsening economic hardship in Nigeria, lamenting that even his own children are unable to secure employment because of his name.

Speaking during a live interview on Nigeria Info FM 99.3, George decried the level of poverty and frustration in the country, describing the situation as a national emergency that demands urgent government intervention.

“Today in Nigeria, everywhere there is hunger and anger,” he said. “Graduates are floating, no future, no hope; non-graduates are doing nothing. It’s a sad reality.”

The PDP stalwart urged President Bola Tinubu to establish a special empowerment fund for Nigerian youths, particularly those without vocational skills, as well as micro-credit facilities for graduates eager to start small businesses.

“I suggested that Mr. President should set up a special fund to ensure that those who didn’t train in any skill can be empowered. Then micro-credit for young graduates who want to do one business or the other,” George noted.

He also criticised the recent call by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for public donations toward building a national library, arguing that such funds should have been sourced from wealthy corporate donors.

“Recently, the First Lady announced she was going to build a national library and needed contributions. That fund should have been raised by the President asking those people in the banks who donated N20 billion in two days to give that money and manage it properly,” he said.

Lamenting the plight of the younger generation, George revealed that his own children, despite their qualifications, have been unable to secure jobs in Nigeria due to the stigma attached to his name.

“The younger generation in this country, including my own children who graduated a long time ago, have returned and tried to get a job, but they can’t get a job because their name is Bode George,” he said.
