ALLEGED CORRUPTION:ONDO ASSEMBLY SUMMONS OSOPADEC

Following allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement leveled against the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission(OSOPADEC),Ondo State House of Assembly,has today summoned the Management of the Commission.
The Assembly stated that the action became imperative in response to the concerns raised by some stakeholders, community leaders and members of the public, whose petitions called for urgent legislative intervention.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, the Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon(Chief) Olamide Oladiji, stated that the invitation is in line with Section 128(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999(as amended), which empowers the lawmakers to investigate, summon individuals and demand the production of relevant documents.
According to him, the House would not fold its arms while allegations of mismanagement trail agencies entrusted with the welfare of individuals.
Earlier,the Chairman, House Committee on OSOPADEC,Hon(Primate)Oluwatoyin Allen, explained that the aim of the exercise is to ensure that the purpose for which the Commission was established is not defeated, just as he called on the management to cooperate with the House by providing useful information that would aid the investigation.
The Speaker later, assured residents of the State, particularly stakeholders in oil- producing communities that the process would be thorough, transparent and devoid of bias, with the ultimate aim of restoring accountability and strengthening public trust.
