On November 25, 2025, Dr. (Mrs.) Mercy Olayinka Femi-Idris will bid farewell to the public service and celebrate a milestone birthday – her 60th! This remarkable day will be commemorated at the premises of the Local Government Service Commission, Alagbaka, Akure, amidst the presence of esteemed guests, family, and friends.

A Life of Distinction

Born in Kaduna State, Dr. (Mrs.) Mercy Olayinka Femi-Idris’s academic journey is a testament to her unwavering dedication to excellence. She began her elementary education at Local Education Authority School, Katsina Road, Kaduna State, and attended Government Secondary School, Kaduna, where she graduated with excellent grades in the West African School Certificate Examination in 1982. Her academic pursuits took her to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History in 1987 and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in History in 1991. She furthered her education at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, graduating with a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in 2013, and later earned a Doctorate Degree from City University, Cambodia, in 2021. She also became an Associate Professor at the same City University, Cambodia, in November 2025.

She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Local Government Administration of Nigeria, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries (ACIS).

A Trailblazer’s Legacy

Dr. (Mrs.) Mercy Olayinka Femi-Idris’s illustrious career spans over three decades, during which she has held various positions, including Head of Personnel Management, Director of Local Government Administration, and Permanent Secretary. Her leadership has been instrumental in boosting Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Idanre and Akure South Local Government Areas, and her contributions to women’s advancement have earned her numerous awards, including the Award of Excellent Leadership and Women’s Wing Ambassador; Most Outstanding Public Servant by The Chronicle Magazine; and recognition by the Association of Independent Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter, respectively.

She also received the Couple of Distinction in the Public Service award alongside her husband, Hon. Femi Idris, the Chairman of the Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, presented by the Association of Independent Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter (AINPN) in December 2024.

A Celebration of Achievements

To commemorate this occasion, her biography, “From the Crescent to the Cross: Trials of a Public Servant Redeemed,” written by Olaseeni Oyesusi, will be launched. This inspiring story chronicles her journey from humble beginnings to becoming a distinguished public servant and is a testament to her enduring legacy.
