The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed condolences over the death of Afenifere leader and prominent Yoruba elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, describing his passing at the age of 100 as a significant loss to Nigeria.
Tunji-Ojo said Fasoranti’s lifelong dedication to principled leadership, democratic values and public service had secured him a place in Nigeria’s political history.
The minister, in a condolence message, acknowledged the late elder statesman’s contributions to the political development of Ondo State and the country, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire generations to come.
He described Fasoranti as a committed disciple of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a respected figure in Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-political organisation.
According to the minister, the deceased remained unwavering in his advocacy for justice, true federalism and the protection of the dignity and interests of the Yoruba people, while also promoting national unity and democratic governance.
Tunji-Ojo also recalled the celebration of Fasoranti’s 100th birthday at an event in Lagos, describing it as evidence of the widespread respect and admiration the elder statesman enjoyed across generations and political divides.
He noted that Fasoranti’s commitment to public service and his contributions to Nigeria’s political development would remain an important part of the country’s history.
The minister extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Ondo State, members of Afenifere and all those mourning the loss of the respected Yoruba leader.
He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family and associates the strength to bear the loss.
“Adieu, Pa Fasoranti. Your legacy of courage, service, and integrity endures,” Tunji-Ojo said.
