EPL: Haaland Brace Inspires Man City to Victory as Liverpool Complete Comeback Against Brentford

By Asaye Bankole

Manchester City secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday, while Liverpool came from behind to defeat Brentford 2-1 away from home in an eventful round of Premier League fixtures.

At the Etihad Stadium, Phil Foden opened the scoring for Manchester City before Erling Haaland struck twice to help the hosts claim all three points.

Ipswich responded shortly after Foden’s opener through Daizen Maeda, keeping the visitors in contention.

However, Haaland’s second goal proved crucial as City maintained their advantage despite a late surge from Ipswich.

The visitors made the closing stages uncomfortable for the home side when Zian Flemming converted a late penalty to reduce the deficit. City, however, held firm under pressure to secure the victory.

The result extended Manchester City’s winning start under manager Enzo Maresca and strengthened their position among the leading teams in the Premier League standings.

Liverpool Fight Back to Beat Nine-Man Brentford

Meanwhile, Liverpool produced an impressive comeback to defeat Brentford 2-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium, with the home side finishing the encounter with nine players.

Brentford took the lead in the 44th minute through Keane Lewis-Potter, giving the hosts an advantage heading into the closing moments of the first half.

However, the match took a dramatic turn before the interval when Yehor Yarmolyuk was sent off following an incident involving Liverpool defender Jérémy Jacquet.

Liverpool capitalised on their numerical advantage after the break, increasing the pressure on Brentford as they searched for an equaliser.

Their efforts paid off in the 62nd minute when Víctor Muñoz found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Florian Wirtz to bring the visitors level.

Liverpool continued to press for a winner and completed their comeback eight minutes later.

Alexander Isak scored in the 70th minute following an assist from Bradley Barcola to put the visitors ahead.

Brentford’s hopes of recovering suffered another setback when Vitaly Janelt was dismissed late in the match, reducing the hosts to nine men.

Liverpool took advantage of their numerical superiority to protect their lead and secure a valuable three points on the road.

The victory ended Brentford’s unbeaten start to the campaign and provided a timely response from Liverpool following their previous defeat to Manchester City.

Saturday’s results highlighted the contrasting fortunes of the two winning sides, with Manchester City surviving a late Ipswich fightback and Liverpool overcoming an early deficit to claim victory against a Brentford side that struggled after two dismissals.
