A 20-year-old man, identified as Lawisi Safiyanu, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old customer, Muhammad Abba, during a dispute over an outstanding N500 balance on a mobile phone purchase.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 12:30am on October 1, 2026, in Chamo village, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists, stating that preliminary investigations revealed that the dispute began after Abba purchased a mobile phone from Safiyanu.

According to the police, the phone was sold for N1,500, but Abba reportedly paid N1,000, leaving a balance of N500.

The outstanding payment allegedly led to an argument between the two men.

The disagreement reportedly escalated when Safiyanu allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed Abba during the confrontation.

The injured victim was immediately taken to the Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical attention.

However, despite receiving treatment, Abba reportedly died from the injuries he sustained in the alleged attack.

Following the incident, police operatives arrested Safiyanu and recovered the knife allegedly used in the stabbing as an exhibit.

The Jigawa State Police Command said its investigation into the case had been concluded and that the suspect had been charged before a court for prosecution.

The police did not provide further details about the specific charge filed against the suspect or whether he had entered a plea before the court.

The incident has raised concerns over the escalation of minor disputes into violent confrontations, with the police urging members of the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disagreements.
