The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that Lagos, Kano and Kaduna States currently have the highest numbers of registered voters ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja, stating that the country’s national register of voters has risen to approximately 110 million following the completion of three phases of the commission’s voter registration exercise.
Amupitan said the figure places Nigeria as the largest democracy in Africa, highlighting the scale of voter participation expected in the forthcoming elections.
Lagos State leads the country with 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano State with 6,570,276, while Kaduna occupies third position with 4,662,640 registered voters.
Katsina State ranks fourth with 3,876,051 voters, while Rivers State has 3,736,434.
Oyo follows with 3,588,111, while Delta State has 3,525,988 registered voters.
Benue State recorded 3,057,225 registered voters, closely followed by Ogun State with 3,037,981.
Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,012,547 registered voters.
The latest figures provide an indication of the states with the largest voting populations as political parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
