Police arrest 10 suspected criminals in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected criminals for their alleged involvement in armed robbery and violent crimes across different parts of the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, disclosed this while parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Akure on Monday. He said the arrests followed intelligence-led operations carried out by officers of the command.

According to the police commissioner, three of the suspects identified as Promise Daniel, 34, Ifeanyi Umahi, 29, and Adaramoye Abayomi, 37, were arrested in connection with an armed robbery case initially reported on June 14, 2026, at the Iju Police Division in Ita-Ogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area.

Ohagwu explained that operatives intercepted the suspects while they were travelling in an ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV after acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance.

Preliminary investigations, he said, revealed that the suspects belonged to a notorious armed robbery syndicate allegedly linked to a series of violent robberies across Ondo State.

He added that the suspects made useful confessional statements during interrogation, providing investigators with information that is helping security operatives track down other fleeing members of the gang and uncover the full scope of their criminal activities.

The police commissioner further disclosed that the remaining seven suspects were arrested following a violent clash over a land dispute at Adegbiji, via Kajola, in Odigbo Local Government Area.

He said the incident occurred on Saturday, July 18, 2026, when two parties involved in an ongoing land case before the High Court in Ore reportedly arrived at the disputed farmland with their supporters.

According to him, the disagreement, which stemmed from allegations of the destruction of palm trees and other economic crops, escalated into a violent confrontation that left both principal parties injured.

Ohagwu also revealed that some commercial motorcycle riders and three individuals alleged to be soldiers participated in the clash. He noted that the suspected soldiers are currently at large.
The commissioner said police recovered several dangerous items from the suspects, including firearms, cutlasses, charms and acid.

He assured that all the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
