Presidency Accuses Peter Obi of Changing Position on Key National Policies

The Presidency has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, accusing him of taking positions that contradict views he previously expressed on major national policies.

Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the remarks in a post on X while reacting to comments linked to Obi on issues including fuel subsidy removal and the creation of state police.

According to Bwala, Obi had supported the removal of fuel subsidy before the 2023 election but has recently indicated he would approach the policy differently if elected.

He also alleged that Obi had previously advocated for the establishment of state police and the unification of Nigeria’s foreign exchange system but now appears to have shifted his position.

Bwala argued that the current administration has implemented some of those policies and questioned what he described as inconsistencies in Obi’s recent public statements.

The presidential aide further claimed that the former Anambra State governor often responds critically to policies and developments introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, suggesting that his reactions raise questions about his current policy direction.

The remarks add to ongoing political exchanges between government officials and opposition figures ahead of future electoral activities in the country.
