Meet Professor Segun Aina, Nigeria’s Incoming JAMB Registrar

Professor Segun Aina has been appointed as the incoming Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede in one of Nigeria’s most critical education administration positions.

Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Aina is expected to bring extensive experience in engineering, technology, examination systems, and public-sector reform to the examination body. He is set to turn 40 in July 2026.

A distinguished academic, Professor Aina currently teaches Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. He earned his undergraduate degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent before obtaining a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed a Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School. At the age of 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of Computer Engineering.

Interestingly, Aina’s relationship with JAMB began during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, when he worked in the board’s Systems Department. The experience exposed him to admissions administration, data management, and examination processes, laying the foundation for his future involvement in education technology and policy development.

Over the last 15 years, Aina has built a reputation as a technology and governance expert, contributing to reforms across public institutions. He has served as a consultant to the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, where he advised on examination integrity, information technology systems, and digital process optimisation.

Beyond academia and public service, Aina is a member of several professional engineering organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

His appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of technological innovation and digital transformation at JAMB, leveraging his extensive experience in engineering, educational technology, and institutional reform.
