Aiyedatiwa Declares Zero Tolerance for Hard Drugs in Ondo State
The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed the state’s zero-tolerance policy on hard drugs, warning that anyone found guilty of possession, trafficking, or consumption of illicit substances will face the full weight of the law.

Aiyedatiwa made the declaration on Tuesday in Akure during the public destruction of seized drug exhibits carried out by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He was represented at the event by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, who stated that the administration has intensified advocacy and public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing drug abuse, particularly among young people.
According to him, the government remains committed to tackling the growing menace through sustained sensitisation programmes and collaboration with relevant stakeholders, stressing that there is “no room for hard drugs in Ondo State.”
He further warned that the state will not tolerate any individual or group involved in illicit drug activities.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NDLEA, Buba Marwa, represented by DCGN Ningi, explained that the destroyed substances were evidence from cases that had been concluded at the Federal High Court, Akure Division.
He disclosed that a total of 83.35 tons of assorted illicit drugs were destroyed during the exercise, adding that the substances were seized by NDLEA operatives between January 2017 and December 2024.
The state commander of the NDLEA, Daniel Sallah, appreciated the state government for its continued support in logistics and welfare, noting that the collaboration has strengthened the agency’s operations.
The event was attended by heads of security agencies, representatives of transport unions, youth organisations, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, among other stakeholders.
