Aiyedatiwa, Ooni Lead Dignitaries to Okeigbo for Akintoye’s Coronation
The ancient town of Okeigbo in Ondo State is set for a major cultural celebration on April 25 as Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, are expected to lead a host of dignitaries to the coronation of Oba Adeoye Akintoye as the Oluoke of Okeigbo.
The event is anticipated to attract prominent personalities, including top government officials, traditional rulers, and influential figures from across the Southwest region.
Also expected at the ceremony are the Ondo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Olukayode Ajulo, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, among others.
Chairman of the Central Committee for the coronation, High Chief Mashood Ogunlowo, revealed that the ceremony will mark the grand finale of a series of activities lined up to celebrate the historic occasion.
He explained that the events are not only designed to mark the coronation but also to showcase and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Okeigbo community.
Activities scheduled for the celebration include a football competition, prayer sessions, street naming ceremonies, public lectures, and school competitions involving secondary schools within the town. Cultural displays, homage by various groups, a gospel praise night, and a Jumat service are also part of the programme.
Speaking ahead of the coronation, Oba Adeoye Akintoye described the event as a significant milestone for the community, noting that peace and unity have continued to grow among residents, including former contenders to the throne who have now pledged their support.
He also disclosed plans to establish a development centre on 100 acres of land to drive growth and development in the area, while calling for collaboration between government and the people to address security concerns.
The monarch further urged political stakeholders from the community to maintain unity and peaceful coexistence as the country moves toward the 2027 general elections.
The coronation is expected to draw large crowds of indigenes, guests, and well-wishers, marking a defining moment in the history of Okeigbo.
