Ondo @ 50: Aiyedatiwa Unveils Legacy Projects, Honors Founding Fathers as Golden Jubilee Kicks Off

As Ondo State marks its 50th anniversary, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has announced ambitious legacy projects and a programme of honours to celebrate the state’s remarkable journey since its creation.

Speaking at a world press conference held in Akure, the governor unveiled plans to pursue strategic economic initiatives — including the long-awaited seaport, refinery, and petrochemical plant — as part of his administration’s blueprint for economic revival and inclusive growth.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the state’s golden jubilee as a milestone not only for reflection but also for renewed determination to deepen development and expand opportunities for residents across all sectors of the economy.

“These legacy projects are envisioned to transform Ondo State’s economic landscape, unlock job opportunities, stimulate trade and industrialisation, and position the Sunshine State as a pivotal hub for business and investment,” the governor said, outlining government’s commitment to realising long-term infrastructural progress.

Honouring Pioneers, Remembering Heroes

In addition to developmental highlights, the governor disclosed that the state government will honour the founding fathers who championed the creation of Ondo State in 1976.

Special recognition will be accorded to Pa Michael Adekunle Ajasin, the state’s first civilian governor, as well as Pa Reuben Fasoranti and other eminent personalities whose sacrifices and leadership helped shape the state’s foundation.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also announced that late Head of State General Murtala Ramat Mohammed — who passed away ten days after the creation of Ondo State — will be honoured posthumously for his role in the birth of the state.

“As we celebrate 50 years of existence, it is only fitting that we pay tribute to those whose vision, courage and commitment gave birth to this great state,” he stated. “Their legacy has made Ondo what it is today, and we remain grateful for their contributions.”

Golden Jubilee: A Time for Reflection and Renewal

The governor described the golden jubilee as a unique opportunity to reflect on Ondo State’s historic journey — from its creation to its present status — while celebrating its rich cultural heritage, developmental milestones, and future aspirations.
