Delta Police Foil Kidnap Plot as Suspects Flee, Abandon Food Items and Arms

The Delta State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnapping operation after suspected kidnappers fled from their hideout, abandoning food items, firearms, and ammunition during a raid in the Upper Agbarho area of the state.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, following credible intelligence that a group of suspected kidnappers was camped along a bush path in the area. The raid took place at about 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2026, with the team working in collaboration with local vigilantes.

According to the police, the suspects, estimated to be about six in number, opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them. The officers responded with superior firepower, forcing the suspects to flee the scene with varying degrees of injuries.

In their haste, the fleeing suspects abandoned several items believed to have been used during their stay at the hideout. Recovered items included a bowl of soaked garri with three spoons, nylons of garri and groundnuts, sachets of alcoholic drinks, matches, and lighters.

Also recovered at the scene were one FNC rifle loaded with a round of live ammunition and one pump-action gun with thirty-two live cartridges. All exhibits have since been taken into police custody.

The police have launched a manhunt to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives for their swift response and bravery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, praised the effective use of intelligence in disrupting criminal activities. He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, warning that Delta State would remain hostile to all forms of criminality.
