Gov Aiyedatiwa Appoints Southwest Heralds Publisher, Otunba Tayo Adu, Others Justices of Peace

In a landmark step toward strengthening grassroots justice administration, Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa will, on Friday, 28th, officially inaugurate newly nominated Justices of the Peace (JPs) who have successfully passed the rigorous screening process.

Among the distinguished appointees to be inaugurated are eminent traditional rulers including His Royal Majesty, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo, Paramount Ruler of Owo Kingdom, and Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom, and Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, Odundun II, the Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom.

Also to be decorated are top security heads in the state, including the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, the Ondo State Comptroller of Immigration, CIS, of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and the Brigadier Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure.

Also on the list are Founder and General Overseer of the Agape Christian Ministries Worldwide, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Akoko, is the Rt. Revd. Jacob O. B. Bada, Alhaji Abdulhakeem Yayi-Akorede, the Chief Imam of Akure, and other respected religious and community leaders.

Others include the publisher of the Southwest Herald, Otunba Tayo Adu, diplomats, notable professionals, respected community leaders, and other distinguished Nigerians.

The ceremony, which will be held at the International Culture and Events Centre, The Dome, Akure, symbolises the government’s renewed commitment to making justice more accessible, deepening democratic governance, and reinforcing peace-building structures at the community level. The appointment of these individuals reflects their long-standing service, integrity, and influence within their various constituencies, particularly where early intervention and community-based dispute resolution can prevent conflicts from escalating.

Justices of the Peace play a pivotal role in promoting civic responsibility and maintaining social harmony. They serve as trusted intermediaries who witness affidavits, attest to documents, stand as sureties, mediate minor disputes, and help sustain peaceful coexistence. Through these functions, they strengthen public confidence in the justice system and ensure that essential justice services are closer to the people.

This historic inauguration follows the approval of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and marks the first appointment of Justices of the Peace in almost two decades. The selection exercise was meticulously coordinated by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, OON, working with a high-powered committee within the Ministry of Justice.

Dr. Ajulo revealed that the Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon him by virtue of the provisions of the Magistrate’s Courts Law of Ondo State and all other powers process approved the appointments which was deliberately thorough and transparent, targeting only persons of proven integrity, sound judgment, and exceptional commitment to community service.

He noted that nominees were drawn from traditional institutions, security formations, religious bodies, professional communities, and other sectors where individuals have demonstrated exemplary conduct and leadership.
