Ondo East APC Leaders Endorse Speaker Oladiji for House of Representatives, Pass Vote of Confidence

Political leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State have unanimously endorsed the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Olamide Oladiji, as the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders, who paid a solidarity visit to the Speaker in his Akure office, also passed a vote of confidence on him for what they described as his exemplary performance in the legislature.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the APC Chairman in Ondo East, Hon. Olamigoke Busayo, said the decision to back the Speaker for the National Assembly seat was based on his remarkable achievements in the State legislature and his cordial relationship with the executive arm, which he noted has contributed significantly to the peace being enjoyed in the state.

Addressing the recent allegation of mismanaging ₦50 million, Busayo described it as “the handiwork of mischief-makers” whose aim is to tarnish the Speaker’s image. He lauded Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his fatherly intervention in the matter, adding that Oladiji is a trustworthy leader who has never been found wanting in his public or private dealings.

“Two weeks ago, an incident occurred at the House of Assembly involving you and some members, where they called for your suspension. Today, through both traditional and social media, we want to express our gratitude to our esteemed governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his swift intervention.

“We also appeal to members of the State House of Assembly to demonstrate unity and support for our representative, Mr Speaker. We are here to show our solidarity and acknowledge the commendable representation you have given us since the creation of Ondo East Council. Despite the allegations, we firmly believe they do not reflect your tenure, which has been free of such controversies,” Busayo said.

Other leaders at the event, including the Chairman of Ondo East LGA, Hon. Joshua Ogunduyilemi, and the Chairman of Ondo North East LCDA, Hon. Adebayo Jimoh, expressed satisfaction with the unity within the party and urged stakeholders to work collectively toward achieving a common goal.

Yinka Olawunmi, Coordinator of Special Assistants to the Governor from Ondo East, also praised the Speaker for his leadership, urging him to continue upholding unity and fairness.
“You have been doing well. Continue, and God will guide you. We want to emphasize that there should be no sectional leadership in Ondo State. Your success is our success,” he stated.

Responding, Speaker Oladiji appreciated the delegation for the solidarity visit, assuring them that Ondo East remained on the right track. He dismissed the allegation of mismanaging ₦50 million as “pure politics” and “a figment of imagination, bereft of facts.”

He called for sustained cooperation among lawmakers for the progress of the state and reiterated his commitment to transparency and the delivery of democratic dividends in line with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s OUR EASE agenda.

“This is a political period. Whenever elections approach, politics will come into play in various forms. Despite this, we in the House of Assembly will continue to give our full support to His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, with 100% loyalty,” he said.

The Speaker added that no amount of money could make him compromise the reputation he has built over the years.
“For the first time in the history of Ondo State, we have 26 members in the Assembly all from the same party—an unprecedented unity. But leadership attracts criticism. When you are on top, you become the topic. I appeal to all members to set aside personal interests to ensure more development in the State.”

He described the moment as historic for Ondo East and West, noting that he is the first Speaker to emerge from the two local governments, just as former Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko made history in his time. Oladiji pledged to uphold and protect the image of the area, assuring that, like Dr. Mimiko safeguarded the reputation of Ondo State as governor, he would do his utmost to preserve the pride and honour of the constituency throughout his tenure as Speaker.
