Police Arrest Syndicate Producing Fake Okada Emblems in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered a syndicate allegedly responsible for producing and distributing fake commercial motorcycle (okada) emblems across parts of the state.

According to the command, the operation was uncovered after the Branch Chairman of the Okada Riders Association in Owo reported a suspicious emblem found with a rider. Police investigators traced the counterfeit emblem to one Ojo Agbi, identified as the Unit Chairman of the association in Uso.

Agbi was immediately arrested, and preliminary investigation revealed that the syndicate had been printing and selling the fake emblems to unsuspecting riders. The fake permits, police said, were also used by criminals posing as commercial riders to evade checks and carry out illegal activities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the Monitoring Unit for the swift operation, noting that the activities of the syndicate threatened public safety and undermined the state’s regulatory system.

He warned that the command would continue to crack down on fraudulent operators within the transport sector and urged riders to remain vigilant and verify any emblem before purchase.

The police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices believed to be connected to the fake emblem network.
