Amotekun Corps Intensifies Joint Border Patrols to Reinforce Southwest Security

In a bid to shore up safety across the region, the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) has ramped up joint border patrols in the Southwest, the agency’s regional commander announced.

Speaking during a security briefing in Akure, the Southwest Chairman of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that the operation involves coordinated efforts among all state units to monitor cross-border routes, forest enclaves and other known ingress points for criminal operations.

He highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to prevent the influx of bandits, kidnappers and other armed criminals into the six-state Southwest region, and to ensure that border communities are no longer safe havens for illicit activities.

Adeleye said that patrols are being conducted around the clock and that the deployment includes operatives in collaboration with sister security agencies, traditional rulers and community-based vigilance networks. He also reiterated the demand for modern surveillance equipment and tracking technologies to further boost the corps’ effectiveness.

“We are working in synergy across the states. There will be no hiding place for criminals in the Southwest region,” he asserted.

The Commander noted that recent joint operations have already resulted in arrests and the disruption of multiple illegal operations along border and forest areas. He urged residents to cooperate by providing useful intelligence to security agencies and to report suspicious movements in their neighbourhoods.

With heightened operations across state lines, Amotekun is sending a clear message: the region is being secured through unity, coordination and vigilance.ecurity agencies alike.
