Ondo Government Launches Breast Cancer Screening for Female Civil Servants
The Ondo State Government has commenced a comprehensive breast cancer screening exercise for women in the state civil service as part of activities marking the 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The initiative, supervised by the Ministry of Health, took place in Akure and was designed to move beyond awareness campaigns to actionable healthcare delivery, ensuring early detection and prevention of breast cancer among women.
Speaking during the exercise, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola, emphasized that breast cancer remains one of the leading causes of death among women globally. He noted that early detection remains the most effective way to combat the disease.
“The government has institutionalized free breast examination services across all primary and secondary health facilities in the state. This ensures that no woman is left behind due to financial constraints or lack of access,” Dr. Ikuomola stated.
He urged women to conduct monthly breast self-examinations and report any unusual changes to healthcare providers, stressing that timely intervention increases the chances of successful treatment and recovery.
The Permanent Secretary also called on participants to act as health ambassadors by spreading awareness about the importance of regular screenings and preventive care among colleagues, families, and communities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration to improving public health and prioritizing women’s healthcare through sustained investment in preventive medicine and public enlightenment programmes.
The screening exercise, which attracted several female civil servants, is expected to continue across all ministries and agencies in the state as part of efforts to promote a healthy and productive workforce.
