Teenager Beaten to Death Over Cocoa Pods in Ondo
A tragic incident has occurred in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a teenage boy lost his life after being brutally assaulted for allegedly stealing cocoa pods.

The incident reportedly happened around 2:30 p.m. in the Akunmi Quarters area, where the boy was accused of unlawfully harvesting cocoa. Eyewitnesses said he was beaten until he became unconscious and was later taken to the local police station before being rushed to a hospital. He was confirmed dead at about 5:36 p.m.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the assault. The victim’s body has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abayomi Adebowale Lawal, condemned the killing, describing it as “tragic and avoidable.” He warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that jungle justice would not be tolerated.
Lawal appealed to residents to always report suspected criminal activities to security agencies instead of resorting to mob action. He assured the family of the deceased that justice would be served.
