Imafon Agog as Community Marks Ijesu Festival, Applauds Governor Aiyedatiwa

The ancient town of Imafon in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State was a beehive of activities on Saturday as indigenes, residents, and dignitaries converged to celebrate this year’s Ijesu (New Yam) Festival.

The celebration, hosted at the palace of the Olumafon of Imafon, Oba Samuel Adegbehingbe Aliu, showcased rich cultural heritage with drumming, masquerade performances, dances, and thanksgiving for a fruitful harvest.

In his royal message, Oba Aliu expressed deep appreciation to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for approving the long-awaited Imafon road project. He described the move as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to rural development, assuring that the road would ease transportation, boost trade, and enhance the living standards of residents.

The monarch also urged Imafon people to remain steadfast in their support for the current administration.

Similarly, the Iyalobinrin of Imafon, Chief Mrs. Omotosho Esther, applauded the active participation of the people in the festival, stressing that unity and harmony remain the foundation of lasting peace and progress.

Traditional rulers, political leaders, and cultural enthusiasts from across Ondo State graced the colourful occasion, while guests were treated to different yam delicacies, music, and vibrant displays.

For the agrarian Imafon community, the Ijesu Festival went beyond harvest thanksgiving — it stood as a unifying symbol of peace, culture, and shared progress.
