Rev. Isaac Omolehin Raises Alarm Over Wealth Gap in Nigerian Church

Popular Kwara State clergyman, Reverend Isaac Omolehin, has voiced strong concern about the growing disparity between the personal fortunes of Nigerian pastors and the financial state of their congregations.

Speaking to pastors during a recent meeting, he cited a report by the World Council of Churches that paints a troubling picture of church leadership in Nigeria.

“Is it not scary that the World Council of Churches released papers about the state of the Nigerian church — that out of the 10 richest pastors in the world, five of them are Nigerians, but out of the 10 richest churches in the world, there’s no Nigerian church?” Rev. Omolehin queried.

Describing the findings as “worrisome” and “a call for concern,” he contrasted Nigeria’s church leaders with their global counterparts: “The Roman Catholic Church is the richest church in the world, yet the pope has no private jet.”

His remarks come amid intensified discussions on accountability, transparency, and the place of wealth in Christian ministry across Nigeria.
