Desmond Elliot Reveals Terrifying Escape During EndSARS Protest: “I’ve Never Been So Scared in My Life”

Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has opened up about a harrowing moment during the October 2020 EndSARS protests, sharing how he narrowly escaped harm when his Surulere office was set on fire while he was trapped inside.

The EndSARS movement, which swept across Nigeria demanding an end to police brutality and the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), saw widespread protests and civil unrest. Amid the chaos, Elliot faced heavy public backlash after a video emerged of him criticizing the protesters on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In a recent interview with Nollywood On Radio, Elliot recounted that shortly after the controversy, his office became a target. “When there was curfew during the EndSARS period, a lot of bad boys came into Surulere, and because of the curfew, I could not go home,” he explained. “I was stuck in Lekki, so I had to go back to my office in Surulere. I was inside, watching TV, intending to spend the night.”

The situation turned dire when his landlady’s daughter screamed at the approaching mob, warning them that he didn’t live there. But things escalated. “When I knew there was a problem was when a bottle with fuel and fire was thrown into my office and it caught fire. I had to call the chief of staff for help. I have never been so scared in my life, it was horrible,” Elliot recalled.

The experience remains one of the most personal and terrifying moments the actor-politician has faced, highlighting the intense dangers surrounding the nationwide protests.
