Two Dead, Several Injured in Ghastly Auto Crash at Arakale Market, Akure
Tragedy struck at the busy Arakale Market road in Akure, Ondo State, as two people lost their lives in a ghastly auto crash that left many others injured.
The accident occurred at the Provision Line, a bustling commercial hub in the market, plunging traders and residents into chaos and grief.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of a private blue car, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, lost control while descending from the NEPA Road axis and rammed into the crowd.
Among the casualties were an ice cream vendor and several commercial motorcyclists, whose stalls and bikes were severely damaged. A well-known motorcyclist, Bobo, narrowly escaped with his life but lost his motorcycle in the crash.
“It was like a scene from a movie,” Bobo recounted. “The car was speeding from the NEPA side, and before we knew it, it hit people. You could smell alcohol strongly on the driver — he looked completely dazed.”
While some witnesses blamed the crash on drunken driving, others suspected brake failure.
Sympathisers gathered at the scene as the corpses were taken to the morgue at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, while those injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals across the city
