Lawyer Arraigned for Failing to Produce Bail Suspect in Lagos Court

A 29-year-old female lawyer, Ms. Peace Chidinmma Igbo, has been arraigned before the Ebutta-Metta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State for failing to produce a suspect she stood bail for.

According to the charge sheet, Ms. Igbo allegedly conspired to obstruct and pervert the course of justice by failing to present Sodiq Kazem — a suspect in a case involving conspiracy, burglary, unlawful entry, stealing, and giving false information — after standing surety for him with a bail sum of ₦1,000,000. The offence is punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The complainant’s lawyer, Mr. Olu Akanbi, remarked that Ms. Igbo, as a legal practitioner, should have known better. He accused her of shielding other individuals under investigation at the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Alagbon Annex, who are reportedly using retired and serving senior police officers to obstruct the investigation.

Mr. Akanbi further revealed that both Ms. Igbo and Mr. Kazem are staff members of Green Birch Tech Limited and alleged that they are co-conspirators along with other staff members who are currently at large. He praised the FCID officers for their diligence in handling the matter.

The case has been adjourned to May 20, 2025, as Ms. Igbo awaits her legal fate.
