Rivers Political Crisis: Ehie Alleges N5bn Bribe Offer, Vows to Expose Mastermind
The Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie, has alleged that he was offered a N5 billion bribe to impeach his principal while serving as the leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He vowed to reveal the identity of the person behind the offer soon.

Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday night, Ehie also accused the suspended Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, of orchestrating the 2023 bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex. He claimed that only the Speaker had access to the complex after 6:00 PM, suggesting that Amaewhule and his associates should be questioned regarding the incident.
Defending Governor Fubara, Ehie insisted that he had no involvement in the attack, describing him as a peaceful leader. “The governor is a man of peace. He chose the path of conflict resolution. In October, I was offered N5 billion to impeach him, but I refused,” he stated.
Addressing allegations made by the resigned Head of Service, George Nwaeke, regarding the bombing, Ehie denied any involvement and accused Nwaeke of being financially compromised to implicate him and the governor. He expressed disappointment that a civil servant with 35 years of experience would be coerced into making such claims.
Ehie further disclosed that Nwaeke resigned on March 24, 2025, only to request financial assistance from Governor Fubara the following day. “The governor couldn’t have given him money after he had already resigned, stating that he could not work under Fubara’s administration,” Ehie added.
The Chief of Staff also revealed that he has instructed his lawyer to file a lawsuit against Nwaeke, reaffirming his innocence in the burning of the Rivers State Assembly complex.
