Prof. Babatunde Ajayi Olofinbiyi to Receive Professional Excellence Award at Chronicle Magazine Event
Renowned Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Adolescent Reproductive Health expert, Prof. Babatunde Ajayi Olofinbiyi, will be honored with the Professional Excellence Award by Chronicle Magazine on Sunday, March 9, 2025. The prestigious event will take place at 3 PM at the OSDPC Multipurpose Hall, Ijapo Estate, Akure, Ondo State.
A distinguished professor and consultant, Prof. Olofinbiyi has made remarkable contributions to medical education, research, and healthcare delivery in Nigeria. He was the first medical officer sponsored by the Ekiti State Government for a specialist course in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife in 2004. His career spans groundbreaking roles, including his recent appointment as Coordinator of the Nationwide WHO-Federal Ministry of Health Harmonized Maternal and Perinatal Database Project for Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.
Prof. Olofinbiyi has served in various leadership capacities, such as: Acting Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Ekiti State University College of Medicine (2020–2022), where he oversaw significant advancements in training, research, and service delivery, Visiting Associate Professor at Afe Babalola College of Health Sciences and Consultant at ABUAD Multisystem Hospital, Medical Director of Eden Life Specialist Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, which pioneered the first Adolescent-Friendly Health Facility in Ekiti State, Coordinating Consultant at Ekiti State Police Command Hospital, transforming it from a cottage clinic to a tertiary healthcare center.
Beyond the medical field, he plays an active role in academia and community service. As Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association of Fountain International High School, Ado-Ekiti, he is leading the establishment of Ekiti State’s first secondary school adolescent-friendly clinic. His contributions to adolescent reproductive health have earned him national and international recognition, including his non-governmental organization (NGO), “Adolescent Friendly Research Initiative and Care”, which was named the best NGO in Ekiti State by Union Bank of Nigeria in 2019.
With over 115 publications in reputable journals and numerous awards for excellence, Prof. Olofinbiyi continues to impact lives through his passion for adolescent reproductive health, gynae-oncology, and gynae-endoscopy.
The 2025 Fizzy Lecture, themed “Curtailing the Mystery of Ritual Killings and Cyber Crimes: A Critical Analysis in Nigeria’s Perception”, will also take place during the event, featuring insights from Dr. Gbenga Abimbola of the Mass Communication Department, AAU Akungba.
The award ceremony will be chaired by Hon. (Dr.) Gbenga Fasua, Chairman of Akure Local Government, while His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Governor of Ondo State, will grace the event as the Special Guest of Honour. Dignitaries from various sectors will gather to celebrate Prof. Olofinbiyi’s outstanding contributions to medicine, academia, and humanitarian service.
