El-Rufai Remains Silent on Tinubu’s 2027 Bid, Criticizes Favoritism in Appointments

A founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, refrained from revealing his stance on President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition in the 2027 poll during an interview on Arise Television on Monday night. He indicated that he would disclose his position only after extensive consultations with his supporters.

El-Rufai, a staunch advocate of the rotational presidency in the 2023 election, also declined to comment on whether he would support a Northern or Southern presidential candidate in the upcoming 2027 poll.

Recalling his significant role in mobilizing support for President Tinubu after the latter secured the APC’s presidential ticket for the 2023 election, El-Rufai criticized the current administration’s appointments as being heavily skewed towards individuals from the South West geopolitical zone. He insisted that these appointments were not necessarily made to favor Tinubu’s home region but claimed that such imbalances had alienated Northern electorates.

El-Rufai warned that the ongoing imbalance in appointments and certain reforms causing hardship to Northern citizens could jeopardize President Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term unless rectified promptly.
