ONDO ASSEMBLY AGITATES CREATION OF MORE SCOOLS, RECRUITMENT OF MORE TEACHERS.
The Ondo State House of Assembly has agitated for creation of new primary and secondary schools to meet the needs of growing populace.
Members of the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology spoke on Thursday,19th September during a familiarisation visit to the Ministry of Education.
Members noted the growing rural populace cutting across the three geopolitical zones of the state añd the need for them to access quality education.
Hon Jamiu Sulaimon Maito representing Akoko North West Constituency 1 observed that communities across the state are fast growing and expanding hence the need for creation of more schools in order to cater for their educational needs.
The Lawmakers equally observed the dwindling human resources in the state public schools and stressed the need for recruitment of more teachers to fill the obvious vacancies in public schools adding that this would further enhance the standard of education in the state.
They advised on redistribution of personnel especially in the urban areas to cater for the interest of the rural populace as a short time and immediate solution to shortage of manpower in rural schools.
The Lawmakers equally stressed the need to strengthen the state scholarship board in order to meet it’s financial obligation to students in tertiary institutions.
Chairman of the the committee Hon. Toluwani Borokini lauded the achievements recorded by the Education Ministry in view of the dwindling resources of the state. He encouraged the Commissioner to carry the House along in carrying out the assignments of the Ministry.
Honourable Borokini equally called on the Ministry to check high-handedness and other excesses of school administrators in the interest of the students and parents.
The Commissioner for Education, Mr Olufemi Agagu had earlier outlined the numerous achievements of the Ministry calling for unbridled collaboration with the Lawmakers in order to move the Education sector further.
Mr Agagu thanked members of the committee for the visit which he noted was a demonsration of their avowed commitment to duty and unrelenting efforts at ensuring quality Education service delivery in the state.
He solicited the support of the Lawmakers in appropriating more funds for the uplifting of the Education sector of the State.
Committee Members on the visit are Honourable Borokini Toluwani, Chairman, Honourable Jamiu Sulaimon Maito, Towase Kuti, Rasheed Elegbeleye, Olamide Oladiji, Felemu Gudu Bankole and Honourable Favour Tomomewo.
